Housed in a cavernous former photo studio turned Art Deco temple downtown, Simone reveals its intricacies almost immediately: Visitors stroll past antique mirrors, an open kitchen, and a cocktail bar surrounded by leaded glass windows to access the 75-seat dining room, one that’s richly outfitted with tufted velvet banquettes and handmade brass chandeliers.

50-year Westwood veteran Wally’s Wine & Spirits officially opens in Santa Monica tomorrow. The Hollywood Reporter was first to show off the gorgeous new space, with its industrial lighting, tall shelves full of wine, and marble countertops.

The custom-designed space brings some of their favorite California elements to life, creating an interplay of indoor and outdoor space in the 5,000-square-foot expanse. “The relationship between architecture and landscape is very different here than in New York,” Mansur says. The shop’s open-air garden, pond, and courtyard deliver just the sort of sensory experience the pair wanted as a backdrop to their seasonal ready-to-wear and accessories collections.

Blending rustic and industrial with the elegant and lush, the Stones have really outdone themselves here. Designed by brothers Evan and Oliver Haslegrave of hOme Studios, the place feels very much like a gussied up movie set from The Matrix or Gattaca, blending elements of steampunk, Art Deco, and gothic interiors.

Inspired by the existing architecture and the Client’s vision of a New York-style loft space, Electric Bowery envisioned a complete redesign of the floor plan. All interior walls were removed to create an open central work space, with new offices and conference areas defined by walls of steel and glass, to facilitate a collaborative work environment. The custom-designed and fabricated steel-framed glazing provides a striking compliment to the building's industrial bones, while the accompanying interior design adds warmth to the environment with walnut millwork, feature lighting and custom-designed furniture pieces. The result is a modern and inviting office environment, flooded with natural daylight.

Whether or not you're from Arizona, the restaurant's greatest strength is its look and feel. Above all, Salazar is a triumph of atmosphere. This area's potential has been much discussed in recent years, for its proximity to the prettiest in-town stretch of the L.A. River, but that proximity is undetectable from either inside or outside Salazar.
